My New Print
" Royal Street Ensembel"

A moment caught in time on Royal Street presenting a cast of characters from New Orleans' old French Quarter. Ruthy the Duck Lady, good friend, Amzie Adams artist, French Quarter Entrepreneur & classic 'Hippie'... Napoleon, portrait artist from Jackson Square, Omar the pie man... an old friend who always saved me a sweet potato pie. The community of artists, musicians and sundry interesting folk who are the heart & soul of the old Quarter come and go but will always live-on in our hearts and our stories… and of course, in our art. I hope this print brings back fond memories and inspires the making of new rich and fun experiences, in New Orleans.

Welcome to my Studio...
...and welcome to my thirty fifth year as a full time professional artist. Those years have been happily spent with brush & paint romancing the simple treasures of our world. Celebrating the everyday grandeur and beauty, interesting characters and the remarkable spirit that enriches our lives. The Thompson style is colorful, exquisitely detailed and sensitively evocative. The medium is mixed but mostly a blend of fine pen & ink line work integrated with a unique acrylic-watercolor technique. A few paintings are executed in a full-bodied method suggestive of classic oils, but again using robust acrylic color and glaze.  The art is an effective blend of subject and execution and the limited edition prints are a fine rendering of the original art.

A very brief biographical sketch…

Texas is my place of birth... 1948 the year; and from very shortly after that beginning the creative impulse has been a part of my life. Early on, I was lucky to be encouraged in my aspirations. There were short stints in technical illustration, graphic design and commercial illustration. Fortunately, in 1971 a hopeful young artist rolled out to Jackson Square in the fabulous old French Quarter of New Orleans and launched a career that was more a passion than a job. Through the ensuing years of growth and refinement my work has been exhibited primarily in gallery settings. Smiling eyes and uplifting visions have become my hallmark.  Perhaps this is why an enthusiastic group of Thompson patrons have grownProc throughout the years. Today the studio is back in Texas and the gallery affiliations continue.  Additionally, I have begun the presentation of my art and limited edition prints at a number of select, special events. It has been a joy to come out of the studio and chat face to face with so many nice people.  Perhaps you’ll pop into my exhibit someday… until then I hope thepaintings in this web gallery bring you a smile.

The prints have been placed in subject general portfolios for your convenience as shown on the left… titled Jazz, New Orleans, etc…

..Have Fun !
