The old pirate is enjoying a tankard of rum & lime drink... daydreaming of bold friends of old and their exploits and pondering in amused curiosity as to how he could reach such a fine vintage. The ship was to be incidental to the painting... but developed to rival the image of the old pirate. I always guage the sucess of a painting like this buy my desire to actually be there... if this place could be found today, my bags are packed...hahaha.
