This is a fun little painting of colorful characters of the time relaxing down by the river port, on the tavern porch. The story this depicts is a favorite of mine... I love the nostalgia and history of the old Mississippi River and the bayous and ports that connect it. This fascination with classic riverboats and ports lives on. Last summer I was able to have a meal in an old tavern in Natchez Down Under and in the French Quarter of New Orleans. You can be the energy and inspiration from those places is infused in this work. Can you hear the steam whistle?
